Our Good News Story – Tyler Roy
I’m sure many of you have seen on TV the long lines of cars trying to access food pantries all over the country. With restaurants mostly closed, food supply lines disrupted, donations drying up, food pantries that serve the most vulnerable of our citizens are finding themselves in desperate straits. 2nd Harvest Food Bank in Knoxville, TN is not unique in this regard, but they have their very own angel in Piper Tyler Roy of the Knoxville Pipes and Drums.
At first Tyler just wanted to make people feel better by playing his pipes. When people offered to donate money to Tyler, he suggested that they donate to 2nd Harvest. Coverage on local news shows followed and soon neighborhoods from all over the area were begging Tyler to play for his cause. Others from the Knoxville band joined Tyler (at a safe distance). A Go Fund Me page was set up to direct contributions to 2nd Harvest. Fans of Tyler and his crew also wanted to donate to the Knoxville Pipes and Drums. We in the pipe band world know how this virus has destroyed band budgets, and Tyler’s efforts resulted in over $3,000 being donated to the band. The important number, however, is the $15,000 raised for the 2nd Harvest Food Bank!
The pipe band community is in good hands with young people like Tyler.
Please join the EUSPBA Executive Committee and pipers and drummers from all over in saluting our very own Tyler Roy!
